Sweet red onion marmalade

Makes 2-3 jars

Sweet red onion marmalade

Delicious served with sausages and mash!


1 Kg red onions, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, crushed
½ tsp dried thyme
80g butter
4 tblsp olive oil
Pinch dried chilli flakes
150ml red wine vinegar
100ml red wine

Preparation method

Put the onions, garlic, butter, olive oil, thyme and chilli flakes and WHITWORTHS MOLASSES SUGAR in a large pan and cook on a medium heat for 20 minutes.

Add the vinegar and wine and continue to cook for a further 30-40 minutes to reduce. Allow to cool, transfer into storage jars and refrigerate.

Top tips

Serve with warmed goats cheese, or cheese on toast – delicious!

Delicious served with sausages and mash!
