Chocolate birthday tray bake

A celebration cake for any occasion!

Ingredients

250g butter, softened
250g WHITWORTHS FINE DEMERARA SUGAR
4 large eggs
250g self-raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
30g cocoa powder
2 tblsps milk
175g butter, softened
275g WHITWORTHS SUPERFINE ICING SUGAR
25g cocoa powder
Chocolate, sweets and candles to decorate

Preparation method

Preheat the oven to 180°C / Gas Mark 4.

Lightly grease and line a 27cm by 20cm baking tin with baking paper.

Place all of the cake ingredients in a large mixing bowl and beat them together with an electric whisk for 2-3 minutes, until smooth.

Spoon the mixture into the prepared tin and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the surface of the cake springs back when gently pressed with a finger, or a skewer inserted into the middle of the cake comes out clean. Turn out onto a wire rack and allow to cool completely.

Buttercream

Place the butter, WHITWORTHS SUPERFINE ICING SUGAR and cocoa powder into a large bowl and mix well until the mixture is completely smooth and a spreadable consistency.

Spread the top of the cake with the buttercream. Decorate and serve.
